Sorry again for the delay here. November was a busy month for comet discoveries... wow!

Please note that Zesheng had a report on Nov 05 that I can only see two very faint positions and nothing else, so cannot confirm. Same with the Nov 21 report -- I cannot get more than two good positions on it, and I am not convinced that it isn't noise. I will hopefully get the December confirmations posted by the end of next week, and the January confirmations the week after.

A couple of other notices. First, I'm sure many of you are aware that comet 96P/Machholz will enter the LASCO C3 field of view this weekend. This will be the sixth time it has crossed through our cameras! So please note that Qicheng Zhang and myself are running a special observing campaign for this transit, and we will be using non-standard filters and exposure times. So the LASCO data that appears on the main SOHO website will probably be at a lower rate than you are used to. However, many of our C3 observations will be 1024x1024 90-sec Orange filter observations, which are going to be very sensitive to sungrazers... so keep an eye on the realtime FITS data as it comes through.

On the same subject, there are at least two known fragments ahead of 96P. Without going into detail, the reality is that there is probably a large debris field filled with fragments ahead of the comet. If we see new ones, you can certainly report them, but deciding what to call a new comet might get tricky. We will see.

The other thing I wanted to mention was regarding Parker Solar Probe / WISPR. We just released the WISPR data for Encounter 13 a couple of days ago. Within that data, particularly around Aug 29 through Sep 03, there are a handful of small sungrazers. At least three are known comets (one STEREO/HI-1 comet and two SOHO comets) and there are at least a couple of new ones. I recorded a list of the ones that I saw, and Peter Berrett also independently sent me a couple too. I will try and get those files online soon so that we don't get duplicate reports, should any of you decide to look through that data (which you are of course welcome/encouraged to do).

As always, email with questions, comments, corrections, etc.

Karl
