Couple of things to mention today...

1. XC89 was very likely real but I could only get four positions that
I was reasonably comfortable with (and one of those wasn't great).
Also, Worachate mentioned to me that he was not completely confident
that SOHO-3372 was a Meyer, due to it being slightly off-track and a
little on the slow side. I agree it was slightly out of the norm for
Meyer, but for now I will still give it that label. My main reasoning
is that we have had a lot of Meyer already this year, and there was
a bright one on a not-too-different track two days earlier. If 
anything, I'm more skeptical of the group membership of #3380 - that
one definitely seemed a little odd to me. But again, the Meyer comets
are enjoying something of a resurgence right now, so I will try not
to spoil that :)

2. Regarding non-group comets... in a typical year we get anywhere
from 7 - 15 non-group comets. Last year we had only 4 and this year
only 2 (or 3, depending on the above). Regardless, my concern is that
there might be a lot of focus on Kreutz comets, and not much outside
of that (except Meyer). So I just want to ask you all to please
remember to take a look around C2 in particular when you are comet
hunting, just to see if there are any non-group comets. I would also
guess that there are at least a few undiscovered non-group C2 comets
in the 2016 data, should anyone decide to look through the archives.

3. Eclipse! I am sure you are all well aware of the North American
eclipse next Monday. I know that many of you will not be able to see
it, but I am also sure that you are well aware of the fact that we
*might* be able to see a comet during the eclipse, should one be 
visible. I am partnering with Alan Hale this year who, from Oregon,
will be ready and waiting for a comet to point at, should one come
along. I will be carefully watching the report page over the weekend
but please also email me if any comets are discovered on Saturday
or Sunday. Needless to say, it would be very exciting if we can get
ground-based observations of one of your comets!

Hi All,
Congrats to Worachate for finding two Kreutz that will likely become bright 
(particularly the first one), but... they are a day too early! So another two comets 
like this today would be perfect! :)

As you may realize, SOHO is in the 'keyhole' right now, which means our spacecraft
contacts are limited. We do have full, real-time coverage throughout the eclipse
