I can't confirm Bo's report from Apr 30 2015 23:51:51. It's just too
faint.
I'll give it an x-comet label as I think there might be *something* there.

You'll see that I added some archive reports between April and May's
comets.
Trygve resurrected an old report by Mike Oates, and added some C3
observations that allowed me to confirm it as SOHO-2934. (I think it was 
an x-comet originally.) For the other archive comets, both Trygve and I 
made our best efforts to be certain that the comets had not been reported 
first by someone else. 

It is unlikely that I will now do any more archive confirmations until
after 
SOHO-3000. Feel free to send them to me, but I  will deal with them on a 
case-by-case basis. The bottom line is that you all work tirelessly at 
searching for - and competing for - realtime comet discoveries.
SOHO-3000 is
another very important milestone for the mission, and for all of you comet
hunters, and thus I want to make sure as much as I can that SOHO-3000 is a
real-time (or near real-time) discovery like the overwhelming majority of
our comets.

On the subject of SOHO-3000, don't forget to submit your entries to the 
contest! We will close the contest when we get to ~2950, so that will
likely
be in a couple of weeks if this month follows the usual trend. I'll
warn you
all when we're a day or so out from that.

I couldn't confirm Masanori's unretracted Kreutz report from 
May12,15 00:02:55. 

Obviously we don't have the final hours of #2948 recorded yet, but
I'd say C2 is a good bet. I'll fix the "?"s on my next set.

On a related note, I'm guessing that SOHO-2950 will appear within
the next few days, and thus we will be closing the SOHO-3000
contest. Monday is a holiday here, and I'm not in office tomorrow, 
so you will probably have until Tuesday to get your guesses in. 
I'll share my guess with you all once the contest is closed! 
(Obviously I'm not eligible to win the prizes, but it's still fun
to play). So head over to the main SOHO website and take care of
that soon, if you haven't already.

Hi All,

The SOHO-3000 contest has now closed. Hope you all entered! 

Based on typical discovery rates, I'm thinking early August for SOHO-3000. 
So I'll say August 5th. That, rather fittingly, would be Brian Marsden's 
birthday, so I'll use his birth year - 1937 as my estimated T time (19:37UT).

Good luck to those who entered, and even better luck in finding the comet! :)

I will keep on top of confirmations between now and SOHO-3000. However, 
when we start getting close to 3,000 (say, 2985) I will stop publicly listing the
confirmations until we reach 3,000. This is mainly to prevent floods of noise
reports when we reach 2,999, but hopefully adds a little bit of "unknown" for
everyone! (Particularly if we have a questionable comet/x-comet in the mix.)
