Dear All,

The NEO Confirmation Page currently lists new object TLc001 with a Kreutz-group
orbit! The thread on the Yahoo! comets-ml mailing list seems to concur that it's a 
Kreutz, with perihelion around Dec 16. Of course, if this is so then we should expect
a very bright object to appear in the next couple of weeks. 

I had a thought/concern about this, and I'm going to get it out there early: we've seen
that relatively large SOHO Kreutz comets frequently fragment near perihelion and we
get several "fragment/companion" reports with them. This latest comet could arrive as a
single, large object, or as a cloud of dozens of objects, or somewhere between. If it
turns up as a large number of fragments, the reports page is going to be overwhelmed, 
as am I, and I don't think there will be any reasonable way to designate a particular
fragment discovery to any individual. I also don't know how the MPC would want to 
handle such a situation in terms of designating the components. So right now I don't have
any answers, but I want to throw that thought out to you all and maybe you can email me
with your thoughts/opinions on this and how we might want to handle it?

Dear All,

We are just a few hours away from Comet Lovejoy entering the 
LASCO C3 field of view. Feel free to post a "known comet" report
for it if you like, but it should be obvious that it's not new!

Having looked at the HI-1 images, I am confident that this comet
will arrive in C3 at least relatively intact. I don't think we
will see a large cloud of fragments surrounding, or at least not
in LASCO C3. I had considered a suggestion from Sergei to add a 
"comet Lovejoy fragment" option to the report form but I don't
think that will be necessary. If you see any fragments near to
Comet Lovejoy, report them as you would any other fragment, but 
will need to confer with Gareth Williams (MPC) as to how he might
want to handle that.

If we see a sudden disruption of Lovejoy, please do not report
any newly formed components as fragments. Use the "known comet"
option, or just don't report them at all. I will not be able to
count/record/award discoveries of some unknown number of fragments
of the parent.
