Way back on Jan20,2004 (12:46:38) I confirmed SOHO-700 and made the 

comment "let's hope for 700 more". I'm not really sure if I actually

believed we could reach SOHO-1400, but I should have had faith in

the remarkable SOHO satellite and the extraordinary dedication of

all of you SOHO comet hunters! So it is with far less hesitation

that I now say "LET'S HOPE FOR ANOTHER 700 MORE"!!!! :) Thank you

everyone for your continued contributions to this project -- every

For the recent newcomers to SOHO comet hunting:

1) Please concentrate on Kreutz comets -- we see VERY FEW non-Kreutz

objects.

2) Stars/planets ALWAYS move left-to-right, almost horizontally, at 

a constant speed. Learn to recognise them and DO NOT report them.

3) Comets MUST move in a straight line -- no exceptions.

4) Comets MUST have consistent shape and brightness.

5) For a comet to be real, it MUST be visible in at least FIVE images.

(In reality, they are usually visible for at least 8). If you can not 

see your object in AT LEAST 5 images, you MUST retract the claim.

6) If none of the experienced hunters have "confirmed" your claim 

after ~24 hours, it probably isn't real and you should reconsider the

claim.

7) If you decide your report is not real, PLEASE retract the claim.

8) You are encouraged to contact myself or the "sohohunter" Yahoo 

group with any questions you have.

9) Please remember that I have to read through all the comet reports,

and it is not the only job I have -- in fact it's a very small part

of what I normally do! So please don't make a claim unless you are 

really confident that you have found a real object. Guesses are not

generally appreciated by anybody who reads the comet reports page.

We are entering a quieter time of year for SOHO comets, so I expect to

see less reports from everyone.

First, congratulations to Parrish for finding his first SOHO comet!

At the other end of the scale... enormous congratulations to Rainer

Kracht for becoming the first person to find 200 SOHO comets!! It is

an extraordinary achievement, and a well-deserved one for the many

hours Rainer has dedicated to SOHO comet hunting. (It's just a shame

it was a Marsden-group object and not a Kracht-group one -- that 

would have been very poetic!) :)

I'm not sure what to make of Arkadiusz's object. I think it is a 

Kreutz (group II), but it's certainly well off the usual path. Also, 

Rainer's most recent Meyer object seemed to have a lower inclination

than the nominal track, but I could be wrong.
